Worlds, by Plane, Car, Bike, and Boat

Once upon a time, let’s call it few than two months ago, I lived a 90 minute drive to Montreal. On rare occasions, we would fly out of the Montreal airport. We skied nearby to Montreal one absolutely arctic cold December weekend. I attended the Montreal Formula 1 race and loved it. And on six consecutive years, from its inception in 2010 until my (road) retirement in 2015 I raced the GP Montreal. Also, one year since then, I attended the race purely as a fan and it was terrific.

We had every intention to attend the UCI Road World Championships, just a hop, skip, and a jump north from where we lived in Vermont, but lo and behold we moved. However, I’ve had so much fun in Montreal over the years, that despite moving much further from Montreal than a mere hour-and-a-half drive, I’m headed back this weekend and I want you to join me!

I’ll be riding the route below or found here (which doesn’t include the flight to New York or the car ride to Connecticut, if you were curious what the title of this blog was about). At which point, let’s say 6:45am on Thursday September 24, I’ll meet at the Cannondale home office there on One Cannondale Way, Wilton, CT, and begin this 400 mile journey north.

Not even fully warmed up, the first stop occurs just minutes later, as I’ll visit my friend Hugh Mangum at Rise Doughnuts. Rise opens at 7am which gives us ample time to get caffeinated and gluten’ed up. I don’t actually know my next stop, but a handful more stops will occur over the next 200 miles and then I’ll end up camping out for the night in central Vermont.

On Friday September 25, I’ll continue north with a brief stop in our former home town of Richmond, VT, perhaps visit Sweet Simones, then I’ll carry-on for a visit to UnTapped’s world headquarters in Williston, VT, and then mosey through Burlington to the causeway, and ultimately to one of the only bike ferries in all of America!

Anyway, you can follow my progress with my GPS tracker here. And if you really want to see specifics because you’d like to join for a few miles or more, then you can see the exact route here. Yes, that is redundant, but I think worth pointing out because texting while riding feels like a stretch.

Hopefully I’ll see you out on the road or in Montreal for the rest of the action Saturday and Sunday!
