Call up Cyclingnews 'cause here it is

Part of me wants to lament a simpler time when we didn’t publish our gravel race calendars. The other part of me thinks it’s awesome! The professionalization of gravel is in the midst of salvaging American bike racing at a time when other options are limited. And for goodness sakes, it’s fun and in keeping with the times.

So without further ado, sound the horns and let me make public my 2024 calendar!

I’ll always call a calendar a work in progress, but this current iteration is about as fleshed out as I think is possible.

In particular let me point out some hot pointers. In no particular order:

  • The Valley of Tears celebrates its inaugural year in early March. I always enjoy trying out an event in its first go-around and find it really refreshing to be part of events that are new to me. This checks both. Late this spring, Bon Jon Pass Out has both a terrific name and checks both those categories as well.

  • inGamba’s N2 trip is a meeting of the minds. I love the work inGamba does, I was a friend of Laurens Ten Dam in his pro road days and I’m very happy we can continue that friendship today. If you’re keen on a very fun few days in Europe, check that one out.

  • Gravel Locos is an event that I’ve been at from its inception and I am sure I’ll be at for years to come. It takes all kinds to be an event promoter, and Fabian Serralta is the one-of-a-kind mastermind of Gravel Locos.

  • If there’s one day that stands out from the rest, it’s King Challenge. We’re riding our 14th edition of this amazing event. Speed is not an inhibitor because we have 10, 30, and 60 mile options for this day that is about community more than any other. Join me!

  • The Traka will be my first international race since the turn of the decade and my first time back in my home away from home, Girona in a very long time. Definitely excited about that one.

And if you’re here for the content, let’s talk content.

  • I really enjoyed my conversation with Amanda from Groadio that talks about my goals for the coming year. She did her research and it’s appreciated, thanks Amanda.

  • The past three King of the Ride episodes have earned an impressive 98% or higher on my arbitrary personal rating system. I think you’ll dig them.

  • If you ride in frigid temperatures or summer all year long, I think you’ll like watching how to grit through a winter.
