Wow, thanks Steve. I’ve been saying all along this week that the show of support for me and the health of my knee has been very powerful and inspiring. It’s also messages like yours that really motivate me on the down days in this lifestyle. (It’s not all sugar and spice and everything nice being 5000 miles from home in a foreign land missing family and friends…)

Ted, I hope that your knee is healing so that you can ride Paris-Nice. Thank you, thank you, thank you for making me believe again in international professional cycling. Thank you for bringing me/us into your world as a professional cyclist through this site and your other writing. Most importantly, thank you for keeping your life in perspective and for using your place to affect change. We all seek to do work that is important, that taps into our unique skills and passions, and that feeds our soul.

I would LOVE to be a professional cyclist like you but that is not where my talents lie. I am *not* Ted King. I am Steve Fortier, YMCA director (on the other side of our home state, Walpole) and community health change agent. That’s where my skills and passion are best applied. Like you, though, I like to tell stories about my work, to take pictures along the way, and to keep it all in perspective.

It was so great to read about your exploits last week on cyclingnews.com and to see pictures of you, day after day, pulling at the front of a star-studded field. It was exciting to see your vital role in Liquigas-Cannondale’s success. But, most importantly, it was great to read your desciption of your accomplishments in the same humble, grounded words that we’ve been enjoying for a few years now. You’re a great cyclist, but far more importantly, you are a great human being. I wish you continued success in both roles. Thank you.

I tried to go to PT yesterday but didn’t hear the announcement that the Metro train I was on was going out of service, and instead was whizzed backwards, back into the city and away from my appointment. So…could be worse?
